Communicative Leadership Training

Union of Municipalities of Turkey started communicative leadership training programme on 17-18 January 2015 for its high and medium level managers, in line with the fourth objective of new strategic plan; improving service efficiency through institutional capacity building and making internal and external communications more effective.
This is planned as a part of TUSELOG’s first component, strengthened institutional and organisational capacity at UMT.

Anne Scheffer Leander, Communication Strategist of Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) delivered first training, which will be followed by three more until the end of 2015. Training highlighted theories, concepts and central communication behaviors, where lectures focused more on the benefits of communicative leadership and important communication roles and behaviors of leaders related to organizational outcomes, such as employee engagement, team confidence and organizational performance.

UMT leaders then discussed communicative leadership in the context of UMT around some questions; such as what identifies a leader at UMT, which principles guide a leader at UMT, and analyzed their own communication system as leaders. At the end of this first training, UMT leaders identified a list of skills, assets and approaches desired to be developed within their institution.

Second phase of Communicative Leadership workshops is planned to be held in March 2015.
